The Love That Drove Him Underground

The Love That Drove Him Underground is a fully illustrated poetic retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The short book is formatted in an accordion style, which allows it to be read from the front cover to the back, and from the back cover to the front with both sides telling a different part of the story. The first half depicts Orpheus’ budding love for Eurydice, which is then ripped away by her untimely death. The second half conveys Orpheus’ powerful grief, which turns the hearts of the earth, the gods, and even death. The format of the book was designed to allow the reader to take the journey to the underworld and back alongside Orpheus — to travel there and back again, both loving and losing in the process.
